JUST ONE MORE MEAL

Good thing she is lives on another continent, or I'm sure Marisol would kill me over this picture. We went to the town's market area for lunch at one of the eateries.

We had potatoes, yuca (cassava -- one of my favorite foods), beef, chicken, several different sausages, and a local beer mixed with a little soft drink. The eateries are a bunch of stalls along the street side (the blue counter in the picture below) with tables lined up behind each stall. When someone wanders into the area between the stalls and the tables the ladies running the stalls collect around the wanderer and start "advertising"...loudly. It was pretty fun to watch.

Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. I did not get any pictures of them, but the whole front portion of the market was filled with cute, little old ladies selling all kinds of beautiful flowers. Colombians are big on flowers. There are a lot of large greenhouses dotting the countryside.

Some of the greenhouses. A large percentage of the flowers are exported to the United States.

This is a really bad picture, but he looks like a great guy. He was standing across the street from the restaurant and I had to use the digital zoom and chop a couple of things out to get the shot.

The experiment that we came to train these folks for was conducted a couple of weeks after we left the country. As far as I know it was a success. What a great little side trip and a great introduction to Colombia this was. I want to go back and see more someday! A big thanks goes out to all the guys and gals of the geosciences department, and department head Nadejda Tchegliakova, at the National University for the help, the touring, and the fun. Adios, Colombia!

THE END
