This project used our "old" equipment. The square unit on the bottom is a Reftek 72A-06 six-channel data acquisition system (DAS) recorder. The rectangular box on top of the recorder is the disk drive. The box on top of that is the GPS receiver. The small unit on the tabletop is an Epson EHT-30 Hand Terminal that is used to program, control and monitor the DAS. Everything is way over 10 years old, but it all still turns earthquakes into 1's and 0's just fine.
There were only 5 or 6 stations for this project. I took a couple extra of everything so we would not have to worry about fixing anything that did not survive the trip to California. The plan was to get everything deployed in only a few days.
All of the equipment fit into three large and three small shipping containers. It would have normally taken many more boxes for the equipment to be adequately packed for commercial shipping, but the equipment wasn't going to be shipped from New Mexico to California by a commercial shipper.
It was going by private truck. My little truck. The shipment was about 650 pounds, and physically fit in the back of my pickup. I wanted to drive out since it was fairly close, it would come out quite a bit cheaper for the project, and I could avoid the hassles of flying, rental cars, and all that stuff. Plus, it gave me a chance to take a little vacation.
