Equipment from the instrument center is sent all over the world. The shipping and handling of all that equipment takes place in the warehouse.
Most of the equipment is shipped in plastic shipping containers. Some containers are sized and filled with foam padding for use with only certain pieces of equipment. Above is a photograph of three sensors returning from a project in China.
Above is a photograph of some DASs, external disk drives, and GPS receivers returning from an experiment in Poland.
Some experiments use only a handful of equipment. Other experiments may require up to 100 sets, or stations, of equipment with all of the additional support equipment required to keep the experiment going.
Above is a photograph of four of the six pallets of equipment that was sent out for an experiment in the San Francisco area. You can read more about that experiment here.
