PRAGUE, PRAG, PRAGA, PRAAG, PRAHA

I have no idea how it should be spelled, but I came across all of those variations while I was there (not counting the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etcetera, variations. I don't know why we in the U.S. spell it "Prague", but for the most part those that live there spell it "Praha". So when in Praha...

I'm not even going to try to show all of the places that I visited in Praha. There were just too many things to see and do there. As I poured through all of the visitor information pamphlets and guide books trying to figure out the names of everything that I did see I realized how many more things there were to see that I missed! I took about 1700 pictures on the whole trip. About 800 of them were just in Praha. On this trip I walked by a lot of places that you really should go into. I'll go back someday for a real vacation and visit those places. I'll try to keep it down to three (long) pages about Praha. You'll just have to go there and see it for yourself.

To start off Praha had a pretty good metro/underground/subway system, especially seeing as how it was all under water less than a year ago when all of Central Europe was flooding -- but we'll get to that later. A ticket good for 60 minutes during the day, and 90 minutes during the evening, was 12 K (Czech crown), or about 50 cents U.S. The metro ran just about everywhere you'd want to go as a tourist, but the one ticket was not only good on the metro, but also on the buses and the trains during its time limit. Below is the escalator down to one of the metro stations.

Vyšehrad metro station.

Below is a shot down Václavské Náméstí (Václavské Square) with the Národní Muzeum (National Museum) on the left in the distance. This is near the metro entrances for the Mustek station. I couldn't get the people to stand still while I took the three shots that make up this panorama, so the girl in the yellow shorts shows up in three different places at the same time. This was the usual starting point for several journeys into downtown Praha. Once there you could walk just about everywhere.
