These are just a few more pictures that I took...some while dangling my arm out the window of our car as we drove along.
The following two pictures were taken of the countryside near Conza Della Campánia. This area suffered quite a bit of damage during the 1980 Irpina earthquake. It used to be flat. Just kidding.
The town of Cairano taken from Sant'Andrea Di Conza. It was much better looking in person than it is in this picture.
Every 20 kilometers or so on the autostrade there were service areas. Most of them were combination gas stations and restaurants or bars. They could be visited without getting off the autostrade and having to go through the toll booths.
Just one of the toll stations on the autostrade.
Below is the Alta Valle Del Calore where the town of Montella was located. The Monti Picentini are in the background. Il Santuario Del S.S. Salvatore is the small 'blip' on top of the hill about 1/3 of the way across from the left edge of the picture, and the convent Santa Maria Della Neve where we put the station is on the short hill just to the right of the center of the picture. You cannot really see the convent, so you will just have to trust me.
An abandoned farmhouse on Le Murge in Púglia near where our Minervino station was located. We passed a lot of abandoned farmhouses during our travels. A lot of them were built by the government when the land was split up and (re)turned over to private citizens after World War II. Now a lot of them are abandoned their owners having sold their land to other owners and to large corporations.
Near Spinazzola, Púglia looking back (east) toward the rise of Le Murge.
Also near Spinazzola. In the distance, above the truck, is Monte Vúlture, a large volcano that can be seen from a large portion of where we were working. Monte Vúlture could be seen from a much larger area about 127,000 years ago when it blew its stack.
The brickwork in the entrance of the municipio building in Venosa. There is no way I would have had that much patience, not to mention skill to make that roof.
While checking out a small chapel near Buonabitácolo, Campánia.
I was in Italy for Christmas. Here goes St. Nick in a sleigh with a witch in a procession that started at the church in Grottaminarda. The three wise men were there too. I have no clue what the witch was about. I hope that was not really Mrs. Clause.
Another view of Craco, Basilicata.
Part of the Pollino mountain range on the border between Basilicata and Calábria. The almost highest point of the range, Monte Pollino, is, of course, off of the right edge of the picture. I did not know any better. I did not know what I was taking a picture of at the time. Also, since we were moving the two pictures stitched together do not really match up in the foreground. The mountains are OK, though.
