The second day of work the weather was much better -- somewhere else on the planet. It rained pretty heavily on and off at Cape Matatula.
In between showers we were able to do a little more prep work. A 35 gallon barrel was going to be placed into the hole with a bunch of cement, so I stuck three pieces of PVC tubing into the bottom of the hole and pounded them down until a marble tile placed on top of them was level and about six inches above the bottom of the hole. These tubes were put in to give the barrel something relatively level to settle down on top of when we got around to installing stuff.
During another break in the weather Lafaele and his helper, Tuiala Usoalii, who was the son of the local chief, started laying out a spot for a cement pad that would, eventually, hold the box containing the recording equipment and the solar panels. The preliminary solar panel mount is in the background.
