Once the interior construction was nearly finished I split bamboo into strips about 1" wide and covered the bench frames to finish the seating.
The inside floor, and part of the way up the sides, was painted with red lead paint to prevent water from penetrating the wood. The red paint on the forward steps and the bow platform above are more red lead paint. The step area would be were people would be entering and exiting the boat (the step was on the starboard side), and the platform area would be exposed to the weather.
