Before Sweetie could be taken for a test drive I had to do something with the bottom of the hull.
A flat, smooth hull would make the boat a bit difficult to control. So the boat was tilted up on its side and I nailed temporary 1"x2" runners along the bottom to give the hull some traction.
If the boat had slipped off the bamboo poles I had holding it up while I was under there pounding away I would have been dead. At this point the boat weighed about 1,100 pounds, or 500 kilograms.
I added a small trim tab to the lower trailing edge of the stern just to see what it would do. I could control it from inside the boat while underway. Trim tabs are used to control how far out of the water the bow is allowed to point (up). This can affect the speed of the boat...or so I guessed.
